Stage five was unquestionably the most scintillating instalment of the Tour of Britain so far. Much was to play for, and whilst some things stayed the same, there were winners and losers elsewhere, namely in the King of the Mountains competition.
A Decisive Day
Mark Renshaw may have things on his mind - not least his omission from Australia's World Championship Road Race squad - but that did not deter him from taking yesterday's stage with great aplomb. Arguably it was a gesture of good will on Mark Cavendish's part to hold off the rest of the field and give his long-serving lead-out man the win in what will be one of their last finishes together.
HTC Highroad are set to dissolve and it will be pastures new for the dynamic duo. Renshaw will join Dutch outfit Rabobank in 2012, and Cavendish is likely to team up with many of his compatriots at Sky, although it has yet to be confirmed.
