MercyMe is an Contemporary Christian music band that formed in 1994. The band consists of lead singer Bart Millard, keyboard player James Bryson, drummer Robin Shaffer, bass player Nathan Cochran and guitar players Michael Scheuchzer and Barry Graul.

Bart Millard, from Greenville, Texas, had aspiration to be a football player, but after an injury to his ankles during his freshman year of college, Bart had to rethink his plans. He took choir as an elective and began to enjoy his new hobby. That same year, Bart's father died. Things were changing fast.

Bart's former youth director had moved from Texas to Florida. He invited Bart to come work with his youth group's worship band. Bart accepted the invitation and at first assisted with the band's video and sound system. But one night, when a problem came up with the lead singer of the worship band, Bart filled in. James Bryson was also a member of this band and a friendship developed.
